I pre-booked with Neville 876 417 5812. Call him and negotiate a rate. As soon as we pushed off a supply raft came by to sell us beer or anything else required for a leisurely raft ride. Neville likes beer. About half way through the three hour 8 mile trip is a lunch stop for chicken and crayfish. It's worth the stop. The rum punch guy is there too, but the tootie frootie flavour is way too sweet. The March ride was a pleasure. Calm and peaceful with not much in rapids. Rainy season might be a little wilder. It is the thing to do in the area.

We really loved rafting down the Rio Grande. The scenery is truly stunning and it so relaxing, slowly rafting down the river with a Red Stripe in hand. Also really enjoyed lunch stop at Belinda's.

A nice way to experience an authentic part of Jamaica. Something for all the generations. Check out some of the other tips, because you have some latitude on how your trip goes.

When visiting portland parish you shouldn't miss rafting down the Rio Grande. If you'r staying in Port Antonio the easiest way to get there is to take a route taxi from bridge st. heading to the Grant's Level (3$us per capita) - there you will find your captain - no problem. The prices of raft ride should be around us$ 60 - 80. Rafting down takes around two hours. The vegetation in rio grande valley is breathtaking especially in the top parts of the river. While going down be sure to ask you captain to go through errol flynns rock and to stop somewhere deep where you can take a nice and refreshing dip in the rio grande. There is a nice spot where you can stop for something to eat/drink (some sort of jungle bar;-) and you can swim there as well. Getting back to PA is fairly easy, just get one the road from St. Margaret's Bay to PA and catch a route taxi. Ride to PA is about 2$US per passanger.

With the soothing river sounds, cool water, pleasant 'boatman', amazing scenery, appropriate safety precautions and great company, the 2 hour experience made for an unforgettable positive memory.

Whenever I feel stressed, I will remember the beautiful bamboo rafts, & pole men guiding us through the jungle filled with beautiful birds and their sounds

This is one of the longest rivers in Jamaica. You board a long raft for two people and your guide punts you a t a slow pace along a quiet river. You see a few herons and ingrets on your peaceful journey. (This is better than the Brae River). There are a few small rapids on the way which were fun.Overall ,its a lovely trip for those who enjoy nature. Our guide told us there are 72 guides wo only get called out about once a month, depending on the number of toursists which is limited because it is in the least travelled part of Jamaica. So please tip these guides.Afterall ,they get paid little and go out of there way to ensure you have a great afternoon. If you want to swim in the water you merely tell your guide.Take water/drinks with ou or puchase from vendors along riverside. Our guide was 70 years old and still working.Another guide was young and did the singing.A fun ,beautiful place.Visit this place. You won't regret it. Tip anything between 2/10 dollars to your guide. It will be geatly appreciated.

The ride down the river was beautiful. Captain Grandeville was entertaining, informative, and gave us great suggestions for food. If they suggest it... DO IT!

A year ago I wrote a review about my experience rafting on the Rio Grande. This year while I was in Jamaica I decided to return with friends so we decided to hire the same captains (Mark #54, Kevin #006 and Harvey #95). We were very impressed with their knowledge, history of river rafting and pineapple planation stories. So off with a cooler of Red Stripe, singing DAY O song by Harry Belafonte and several other tunes where everyone joined in. It was a totally relaxing trip and I must say for the 2nd time rafting it was a terrific experience. I highly recommend you go rafting.

If you do one activity whilst in Port Antonio then you must raft down the Rio Grande. The view is stunning and it is so peaceful floating down the river. Lenny (No. 21) was our captain and we would recommend him highly.

Our rafter was Michael Morgan and Bennie the trip down the 8 mile river was breath taking. Half way down we stopped for lunch and the food was to die for. Try the prawns OMG.

We LOVED this. We didn't book through our hotel as we wanted to ask the locals for a captain they recommended and we got the treat of a lifetime! Benz and Michael - the best captains - took us along the Rio Grande on a stunning day, singing songs and sharing stories of Erol Flynn, Sean Connery and Peter O'Toole's trips along the same river. A stop at Belinda's for the best food we ate the whole holiday and it really was a perfect day. Go local, get Michael and Benz, eat at Belinda's, and you'll have a day to remember for a life time x

Hire a captain/guide to take you down river on a bamboo raft. The skill and athleticism it takes for these men to steer the rafts is extraordinary. Take in the magnicfricent scenery, and swim in the cleanest river you could imagine. If Belinda is out on the river bank cooking...you are in for a real treat.

Very nice bamboo rafting. A bit expensive (USD 72). If you have your own car, you can either drive to starting point of the raft and they drive the car to the end (USD 30) or then you can drive to the end point and take taxi from there (USD 15). Beautiful scenery. Recommend booking lunch at Belinda's which is half way on the route (booking can be done at the office at the ending point).
